“Eating for Two” during Pregnacy- Can It Harm Your Baby’s Intelligence??!!!

Pregnant women ”eating for two” can put their babies at risk from eating disorders and a low IQ, a new research has warned.

They may also put them at risk of developing behavioural problems, eating disorders and mental health conditions such as schizophrenia.

 

This article reveals the idea that gaining too much weight during pregnancy can cause harmful long-term effects on your baby. Babies born to obese mothers are more likely to have a low IQ and are more likely to develop eating disorders later in life. I think this is very interesting information, but we need to make clear that it IS necessary to gain weight during pregnancy and that you are expected to put on a few pounds. Because on the contrary, NOT gaining enough weight can also be harmful to your baby. It is so intriguing to me that there are so many things a mother can do during pregnancy that will affect her child, and there are probably millions of factors that we have not even discovered!

I try not to belive the hype.For years people have been not ganning enough weight or ganing to much wait and i know alot of people who turned out jsut fine.I think what will effect the child is the mothers stressiing over how much to eat and how much not to eat.I feel if the mom is in a good loving enviroment and the child is born into the same loving enviroment I think every one and everything thing will be just fine.However if a person is ganing too much weight it might be to the foos she is chosing to eat and not eating right while preganant can harm the baby but that bis a totally different topic.

  2. I think that this article is very interesting. There has been much research on the pre-natal environment being an environment all on it’s own. Therefore, what goes into the pre-natal environment is crucial to what comes out…babies. Many of the disorders talked about are genetic such as schizoprhenia. However, I am not quite sure if learning disabilities and eating disorders truly come from this. But I can see why eating properly would effect the pre-natal environment. The saying “eating for two” has been around for as long as I can remember, but I don’t think that many women actually eat for two. I think the key here is to eat healthy and try to put good things in your body knowing that your children will be getting those nutrients.

I personally dont believe that you are eating for two. youre eating because you yourself is hungry and the right food healthy for the baby and yourself with correct portions is the real key. of course your body will naturally gain the weight because of the obvious pregnancy. im not too sure i agree with the whole later in life weigh problem due to the mother gaining too much weight. When they are actually born you can properly teach them how to eat but you yourself must be eating right.
